Baked Cabbage Steaks Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 medium head of green or red cabbage
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika or smoked paprika (optional)
- 1 tsp dried herbs (thyme, rosemary, or Italian seasoning, optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
2. Prepare the Cabbage:
- Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and rinse it thoroughly.
- Cut the cabbage into ½-inch thick slices, keeping the core intact to hold the “steaks” together.
- Lay the slices flat on the prepared baking sheet.
3. Season the Steaks:
- Brush both sides of each cabbage slice with olive oil.
- Sprinkle evenly with salt, pepper, paprika, and dried herbs. Optionally, rub minced garlic over the surface for extra flavor.
4. Bake the Cabbage Steaks:
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, then flip the cabbage steaks carefully using a spatula.
- Continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and golden, and the center is tender.
5. Serve:
Serve the cabbage steaks warm as a side dish or main course. They pair wonderfully with roasted proteins or grains.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, drizzle balsamic glaze or sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the baked cabbage.
- Adjust seasonings to your preference or try adding a spicy kick with red pepper flakes.
Enjoy your crispy, savory baked cabbage steaks!
