Chicken Parmesan Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 4 cups cooked, shredded chicken)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • If using whole chicken breasts, cook them first. You can either bake them at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until cooked through or pan-fry them until golden. Once cooked, slice the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Alternatively, use pre-cooked chicken (shredded or cubed).
  2. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  3. Assemble the Casserole:
    • Spread the cooked chicken in an even layer in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
    • Pour the marinara sauce over the chicken and spread it out evenly.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  4. Prepare the Topping:
    • In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, melted butter, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir until the breadcrumbs are well coated with the butter and seasonings.
    • Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the cheese.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy, and the cheese is bubbling.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
