Famous Classic Golden Muffins Recipe

Classic Golden Muffins are soft, fluffy, and lightly sweet with a tender crumb and beautifully golden tops. Simple to prepare and endlessly versatile, these muffins are perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunchboxes, or a comforting snack with tea or coffee.

  • Bake Time: 18–22 minutes

  • Total Time: About 30 minutes

  • Yield: 10–12 muffins


Ingredients

  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour

  2. ½ cup granulated sugar

  3. 2 teaspoons baking powder

  4. ¼ teaspoon salt

  5. 2 large eggs, room temperature

  6. ¾ cup milk

  7. ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup blueberries or chocolate chips

  • ½ cup chopped nuts

  • Zest of 1 lemon or orange


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease well.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.

  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients.

  5. Gently mix just until combined; do not overmix (batter should be slightly lumpy).

  6. Fold in any optional add-ins if using.

  7. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.

  8. Bake until tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  9. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.


Notes

  • Overmixing can make muffins dense—mix gently.

  • Sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking for crisp golden tops.

  • Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
