For the Chicken:

  • 2 lbs (about 900g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-sized chunks)
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Sweet and Sour Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (for heat)

🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
  3. Place cornstarch in one bowl, and beat the eggs in another bowl.
  4. Dip each chicken piece into the cornstarch, then into the egg.
  5. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat.
  6. Lightly fry the chicken until golden brown (you don’t need to cook it fully—it’ll bake later). Place the browned chicken in a 9×13 baking dish.

Step 2: Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken in the baking dish.

Step 3: Bake It

  1. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes, turning the chicken every 15–20 minutes to coat it well in the sauce.
  2. The sauce will thicken and coat the chicken beautifully.

  • Serve hot over steamed white rice or jasmine rice.
  • Add stir-fried bell peppers, pineapple chunks, or snap peas for a full sweet & sour experience.

  • Want it crispier? Broil the chicken for the last 5 minutes.
