Making fluffy chocolate chip brioche in an air fryer is easy and results in a soft, golden, and slightly crisp treat. Here’s a simple recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups (350g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (50g) sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast
  • ½ cup (120ml) warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips
  • 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Make the Dough:

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, eggs, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms. Knead by hand or with a mixer for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Add the softened butter a bit at a time, kneading until fully incorporated.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly.

2. Proof the Dough:

  1. Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
  2. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

3. Shape and Second Proof:

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into smaller portions if making rolls, or shape into a loaf.
  2. Place the dough pieces in a greased air fryer-safe dish or directly on parchment paper.
  3. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

4. Prepare the Air Fryer:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3 minutes.

5. Apply Egg Wash:

  1. Mix egg yolk and milk, then gently brush over the brioche.

6. Air Fry the Brioche:

  1. Place the prepared brioche in the air fryer basket.
  2. Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 12-15 minutes. Check halfway to ensure even cooking and prevent over-browning. If needed, cover with foil to avoid burning the top.

7. Cool and Serve:

  1. Let the brioche cool slightly before serving to allow the chocolate to set. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Ensure the dough isn’t too close to the air fryer’s heating element to avoid burning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 2-3 minutes to refresh.
