Here’s a simple and delicious Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk recipe that uses just a few basic ingredients. Perfect for baking, desserts, or your coffee!
🍯 Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
🕒 Ready in: 10 minutes
🥄 Yields: ~1¼ cups (equivalent to one 14-oz can)
🧂 Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
🔥 Instructions:
- Combine ingredients
In a medium saucepan, add the milk and sugar. Stir gently to combine. - Heat it up
Turn the heat to medium-low. Stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved—do not let it boil. - Simmer gently
Let the mixture simmer gently for about 35–40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not stir constantly—just enough to keep it from sticking or burning. - Add butter and vanilla
Once it has thickened and reduced to about half its original volume, remove from heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract (if using). Let it cool. - Cool and store
Pour into a clean jar or container. It will thicken more as it cools. Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
✅ Notes:
- You can substitute whole milk with evaporated milk for a creamier version.
- For a dairy-free version, use 1 cup full-fat coconut milk and ¾ cup sugar. Simmer longer until thickened.
